Mountain State Spotlight has hired Tyler Dedrick as Audience Manager, a role where he will work with reporters to grow our audience and broaden the newsroom’s efforts to incorporate the experiences and perspectives of all West Virginians into our work.
Tyler will also run our membership program, and work to strengthen the organization’s financial sustainability. His first day was June 21.
“We are incredibly excited to have Tyler join us as we work to build the civic newsroom that West Virginia needs and deserves,” said Duncan Slade, deputy managing editor. “His experience in digital marketing, nonprofit fundraising and audience engagement will make him a strong addition to our team.”
Tyler is a career pivoter from digital communications and has grown online communities for a variety of companies, including e-commerce stores and a national nonprofit organization.
Prior to joining Mountain State Spotlight, he reported on the suburban communities of Madison, Wisconsin for Adams Publishing Group. His reporting work has appeared in Wisconsin Watch, Wisconsin Inno and Cronkite News.
Tyler holds a master’s degree in Investigative Journalism from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass Communication and certificate in Digital Studies from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
