Executive Director
This position is an opportunity to take a promising new organization in a beautiful, complex state, and grow it into a vital sustainable West Virginia institution for decades to come. It would put you on the forefront of a national movement to make local journalism a foundational part of civic life in West Virginia, by enabling the kind of journalism that holds power to account and truly addressing the information needs of the communities we serve.
Economic Justice Reporter
We’re looking for a reporter who can dig into and explain clearly and simply to all West Virginians the reasons poverty exists in our state, the conditions that keep people in poverty, and the failures — and successes — of programs aimed at helping to reverse the cycle of poverty.
State Government Watchdog Reporter
We’re looking for a reporter who will cover the West Virginia Statehouse in a way that’s driven by the needs of West Virginians, by a desire to de-wonkify state government and clearly explain how our government affects their lives.
Emerging Journalist Fellowship
Mountain State Spotlight, in partnership with The Diversity Pledge Institute, is excited to announce the first year of a new fellowship program aimed at giving aspiring journalists of color or from other marginalized communities a paid opportunity to learn new skills in Charleston, West Virginia.
These are the only open positions we have right now. If they aren’t a great fit but you’re passionate about creating and sustaining local news in West Virginia, we’d still love to hear from you! Introduce yourself at jobs@mountainstatespotlight.org.
