Mountain State Spotlight is pleased to welcome Jasmine Milbourne and Eva Altizer to the reporting team this summer.

Milbourne is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She previously worked at the Northeast Georgian as a research intern, the Oglethorpe Echo as an education reporter, Flagpole Magazine as a freelancer and Baltimore Witness as a court reporting intern. Milbourne also served as the copy editor for the University of Georgia’s official yearbook and the university’s first multicultural magazine. She is originally from Harpers Ferry.
“Jasmine’s journalism has shed light on public institutions that serve communities,” said Managing Editor Mary Kay McFarland. “We’re excited for her to bring this experience to Mountain State Spotlight to help uplift and inform West Virginians.”
Milbourne is an incoming master’s student at the University of Georgia, and she will be working with Mountain State Spotlight for 12 weeks this summer.

Altizer is a Charleston native and a rising junior at Denison University in Ohio, majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing. She is a staff writer for the student newspaper, The Denisonian, and has experimented with storytelling in audio and video formats.
“Eva has a deep connection to West Virginia and a desire to produce journalism that gives a voice to and serves the people who live here,” McFarland said. “We’re thrilled to have her on the team to produce illuminating and innovative journalism.”
Altizer will be with Mountain State Spotlight for seven weeks this summer.
