Mountain State Spotlight is pleased to welcome Nicole Blevins to the reporting team for 10 weeks this fall.
Blevins is a 2025 graduate from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Her work for the Indiana Daily Student placed first in the 2025 Hearst Journalism Awards Personality/Profile category for her story highlighting a DACA recipient during the months before the 2024 election. Blevins was also a finalist for the 2025 Hearst Writing Championships.
“Nicole’s journalism has shared the voices of underrepresented people in communities and holds power to account,” said Managing Editor Mary Kay McFarland. “These values and skills are in line with Mountain State Spotlight’s mission, and we are thrilled to have her join our team.”
Blevins previously held a summer internship at Bloom Magazine.
