Stephanie Spears Tomana

When asked by Mountain State Spotlight “What’s one thing you want West Virginia voters to know about your platform?” the candidate replied:

I’m not a politician. I’m a West Virginian who has spent years watching our state rank last in every important metric. I’m a mother who’s seen an entire generation leave for opportunities we simply don’t have. And I’m a teacher who’s spent nearly twenty years telling children they can be anything they want to be when they grow up, but I know, they cannot do it here. I was raised to believe that we have a responsibility to give our children better than we ourselves received, and we are failing. I stepped into the political arena because I believe it is time to get back to the basics of governance—roads, schools, and jobs; sound infrastructure and education systems are the driving forces of economic growth. The path forward demands we set aside partisan politics and culture wars for common-sense government and common-sense solutions. I believe that when we listen to each other and work together to develop and support legislation that puts West Virginians first, we’ll stop being last.
